blossoming
Mother Nature tells us the chilly winter months are a time for hibernation -- rest from fall’s harvest activities and preparation for spring’s bloom -- but I still occasionally feel guilty for not matching the go-go-go pace of the Western working world. 7Adinkras has been slow-cooking behind the scenes, resting from our Dec. 14 mini-screening (yes, we’ve taken a while to recuperate from those multiple all-nighters!), working on our monthly PeopleTV show, plowing through our Daddy’s Girl anthology submissions, and submitting our works to local film festivals.
Now it seems 7Adinkras has been hit with some early spring fever!
My short documentary Hoo Hoo: Losing Mother Tongue, a glimpse into my relationship with my Chinese immigrant grandmother, will be featured in two film festivals this month: the First Annual Women in Film and Television International Short Film Showcase on March 8, 2006 (at the Atlantic Station Regal Cinema), and the Second Annual Atlanta Women of Color International Film Festival taking place March 24-26, 2006 (at the Auburn Avenue Research Library).
Not bad for my first work of video (that is, if we’re not counting the mock television news shows my younger brother, sister, and I staged in the mid-80s)!
