What have the 7Adinkras artists been up to with no blog update in ages? Can you believe we’ve been so busy that we haven’t had time to write? Perhaps you’ve seen us about town attending film festivals -- or maybe you caught Nadirah proclaiming her sensuous womanhood in The Vagina Monolgues. You may have seen Nadirah and me hamming it up on the first installment of 7Adinkras Presents, our monthly show on People TV. Our newest 7Adinkras member, Shaniece, recently hit the streets with a digital camera to ask Atlantans: “What’s the most creative thing you’ve ever done?”

Shaniece is proving to be a powerful new force with 7Adinkras. She’s expanding her onstage talents to behind the cameras with this spring’s PeopleTV television production course. She also co-starred in the fantasy sequence Akanke and Nadirah scripted for the trailer for last month’s Atlanta Women of Color International Film Festival. (The trailer is a must-see as an example of Akanke’s brilliant graphic design and video editing -- great job, Akanke!)

We teased Shaniece last night, though, that she has yet to experience true 7Adinkras initiation. As we began working our next 7Adinrkas Presents show for PeopleTV, Shaniece was surprised that we hadn’t even started editing (post-production) yet by 8 p.m. after two hours of videotaping and looking through the raw footage.

Oh, don’t you know? -- You haven’t really earned your chops ‘til you’ve spent all night-day-and-the-next-night in the editing suite, tag-teaming with another editor, burrowing through the kitchen for midnight munchies, catching a few minutes of sleep here and there on the couch, skipping a shower or meal, and swearing that you’ll never, ever do it again! (And do anyway.)
